Posedla Academy | The Science of Personal Comfort

Posedla Academy | The Science of Personal Comfort

Hello and welcome to the first episode of Posedla Academy, where we dive deep into the world of saddle customization.

I’m a guy who has spent more time on a bike saddle than I’d like to admit—but let me tell you how I got there. Cycling has always been a part of my life. My dad used to be an avid mountain biker, and growing up, I’d watch him compete in amateur races. He got me on two wheels pretty early, but I didn’t catch the cycling bug as deeply as he did—at least not until I moved to New York in 2015.

That’s where things changed. I started commuting on a fixie because, well, that’s just what you do in New York. Soon after, I completely fell in love with the simplicity of riding. I got a road bike, joined local cycling clubs, started racing, and even got into bikepacking. It wasn’t long before cycling became my true obsession.

Fast forward to 2020—I moved back to the Czech Republic and reconnected with Martin, my childhood friend who also happened to be a passionate cyclist. During the endless miles of that strange Covid year, we went on multi-day biking adventures. And let’s just say—we spent way too much time talking about saddle sores and discomfort.

That’s when the idea for Posedla was born: to create a custom saddle that’s as unique as each rider.

Today, I ride about 10,000 kilometers a year—mostly on road and gravel. I still love the thrill of amateur racing and the freedom of bikepacking. I’m here to share my journey, my passion for cycling, and why we believe in the power of customization to make every ride better.

The Beginning of Posedla

Posedla began with two passionate cyclists who couldn’t understand why custom-made saddles weren’t already a thing. We quickly learned why—mass customization is no easy feat.

But we couldn’t let the idea go. Fueled by gallons of coffee, hundreds of prototypes, and endless hours of debate (often on the saddle), we created Joyseat—the world’s first fully custom 3D-printed saddle.

What started as a two-person project has grown into a team of 15, with big plans for the future. Custom saddles are just the beginning.

What Does “Posedla” Mean?

Well, it’s a play on words in Czech:

  • “Posed” = position

  • “Sedla” = saddle

  • “Posedlost” = obsession

It’s the perfect way to describe us: finding the perfect position, creating the ultimate saddle, and yes—being just a little obsessed with cycling.

Why a Custom Saddle?

Let’s talk about something almost every cyclist has struggled with: finding the perfect saddle.

It sounds simple, but it’s one of the biggest challenges in cycling. Did you know nearly 45% of cyclists experience buttock pain during or after a ride? For many, the discomfort is enough to affect performance or even stop them from riding.

Most saddles on the market offer limited sizes based on averages. They may come in different shapes for various riding styles—but that’s still like trying to find a needle in a haystack.

At Posedla, we thought:
“What if we flip the script?”
Instead of forcing you to adapt to a saddle, why not create a saddle that adapts to you?

That’s how the Joyseat was born.

How Does Customization Work?

It all starts with our Smiling Butt Kit. When you order a Joyseat, we send you this kit to capture the imprint of your sit bones.

After making your imprint, you’ll take nine photos of it from different angles and upload them to our configurator. Using photogrammetry, we create a detailed 3D model of your imprint—down to the millimeter.

Then, you’ll answer a few questions about your riding style, flexibility, bike type, and more. This helps us understand how you ride—not just how you sit.

We customize three key aspects:

  • Size – 40 widths, from 130 to 170 mm

  • Shape – tailored to your riding style and posture

  • Stiffness – based on data like BMI, mileage, and preferences

We use parametric modeling and advanced 3D printing to produce your final saddle. Each is built to match your body and your ride.

Accuracy Without In-Person Fitting?

Yes—our system is incredibly accurate even without seeing you in person. The Smiling Butt Kit and your answers give us everything we need.

How Is the Joyseat Made?

Manufactured in the Czech Republic, Joyseat uses:

  • TPU padding – flexible and durable

  • Carbon fiber rails and base – lightweight and strong

Every saddle is made to order, reducing waste and overproduction.

This local approach ensures quality, sustainability, and supports Czech craftsmanship.

Why Manufacture in the Czech Republic?

  1. Local Resources – Skilled labor, advanced tech

  2. Expertise – 3D printing, engineering, biomechanics

  3. Sustainability – Minimized footprint, community support

We build world-class products from our home region in North Bohemia.

What Will Your Joyseat Be Like?

Before we build your saddle, we get to know you.
The Smiling Butt Kit, 9 photos, and a short questionnaire help us dial in the perfect fit.

You'll tell us:

  • What type of bike you ride

  • Your mileage, flexibility, and ride style

  • Which part of the saddle you sit on

  • Your pressure sensitivity

  • Your anatomy (age, gender, weight, etc.)

We tailor shape, stiffness, and even color—from classic black to seven other shades.

Add your name or a short text. Your saddle, your identity.

Durability

Joyseat is built for the long haul:

  • 30,000+ km tested

  • Replaceable top layer

  • TPU & carbon = comfort + strength
